Recently, India was hit severely by the Covid-19 pandemic. The tourism industry has suffered greatly and the businesses are still struggling to revive their operations. But, in the last 2 months, the number of cases in India has been declining significantly.
The possibility of the third wave is still there, but it seems that as of now, the movement of people has been relaxed. Many states have increased their vaccination drive and asked people to maintain Covid-appropriate-behavior while traveling.
On the other hand, the United States under the initiative of Covax is asking for vaccines to be exported to them. To provide booster shots to their population, United States has asked India to supply vaccines to them. India has not yet confirmed if they will be able to export the vaccines.
In the last 3 months, there has been a huge shortage of vaccines in India. One of the reasons for the shortage was that millions of vaccine shots were exported to other countries including the United States during the rising of Covid’s second wave in India. It is very unlikely that India will export any vaccines to the United States without vaccinating India’s population.
If the cases do not rise any further, then tourism can revive for the winter destinations such as Goa, Rajasthan, and Kerala. Only time will tell if in the coming months the pandemic gets over in India.
Following are the two detailed reports by ‘News India Times’ talking about the lowering of the Covid cases in India and demand for vaccines from India by the United States.
