The mayor of Agra, Mr. Naveen Jain demanded the central government to give reasons why the Taj Mahal is closed when the road and air travel are allowed. He demanded the opening of the Taj Mahal to help resume domestic tourism.

Agra has been a hot-spot for the coronavirus spread since the beginning of the lockdown. The Taj Mahal has been closed since March and many tourists were banned from entering Agra since the lockdown.

The Mayor of Agra insisted that the Taj should open with the safety guidelines in place. He said that if the social distancing is followed the Taj can be available for tourist visits. He also stressed the fact that the opening of the monument will help people resume their employment which is directly linked to tourism.

The recent report by ‘CNN News 18’ details the affect of the lockdown on the tourism related to the Taj Mahal.

The recent report from Rajasthan mentioned the opening of several cultural sites with safety measures. The same is possible for the Taj Mahal. Apart from generating state revenue, the decision can also create a sense of normalcy after a long lockdown period.

There is no such report as of now about the decision being made to open the Taj. However, it is to be seen how effective the safety guideline will be in controlling the further spread of COVID-19 during tourist activity.
