The government of Goa made changes to its policy for tourists entering its borders. According to these changes, the COVID-19 test is no longer mandatory travelers.
Starting from 10th June, all tourists will have an option to either quarantine themselves in their places of accommodation or they can take a swab test for COVID-19. The cost of this test is Rs. 2000 and people will have to wait until the test results are released.
Previously, the Goa government was conducting mandatory tests for everyone entering Goa. This created stress on the officials as some tests usually took too much time which made it difficult for the travelers as well as authorities.
The chief minister of Goa said that from Wednesday, people will have a choice between ‘home quarantine’ where they will be monitored and their movement will be restricted. In order to avoid this situation, travelers will have the option of taking the COVID test.
Some people have also protested this decision since this new protocol will increase the chances of infection to increase. But the state officials said that they are going for ‘Herd Immunity’ strategy
