Mr. Manohar Ajgaonkar, the Tourism Minister of Goa said on Monday that there will be a crackdown on the hotels and homestays which are not registered with the Tourism Department. He also said that action will be taken against tourists who are staying in rented apartments and homestays.
All non-registered accommodation facilities will be considered illegal. All the registered properties will be allowed to function and make bookings for tourists. Several notices have been issued against the properties that have not yet registered themselves with the tourism department.
As per the government officials, the reason for implemented this law is to monitor the number of tourists visiting Goa. The tourism minister said that this will help in making Goa a better tourism destination. Earlier, he stated that tourists consuming drugs will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against them.
Only time will tell how it will affect the tourism scenario in Goa. With more and more control over the tourist behavior, the tourists may be discouraged to visit Goa.
