ICMR is in favor of mixing Covishield and Covaxin for better results.

WHO has warned against mixing the vaccines.

A recent study was done by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for testing vaccine mixing. The Covishield and Covaxin were tested on 18 individuals. The study has revealed that mixing of Covishield and Covaxin can improve the results.

The study came as a result of a mistake where patients accidentally received doses of 2 different vaccines. This study is yet to be further reviewed and more data is required to fully understand the safety and efficacy of the vaccine mix.

The research paper for this is yet to be peer-reviewed and requires further study and maybe a bigger dataset. Both Covishield and Covaxin are the most administered vaccines in India. Further trials are expected to be done in the coming weeks to check how effective and safe it is to combine vaccines.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has already warned against the mixing of vaccines. Theoretically, vaccine mixing is safe. But, there are many other factors that can produce and unwanted side effects. The data is not present to disregard the possibilities of side effects.

Canada is another country that is trying out the mixing of vaccines to achieve better results. Following is the YouTube video from the ‘Hindustan Times’ that talks about the WHO warning against the mixing of vaccines.
