The inter-state travel restrictions imposed on tourists visiting Sikkim have been relaxed. Earlier, all travelers visiting Sikkim will have to show an RT-PCR test report. Now, there is no such requirement. Also, there is no need to show any vaccination certificate. All restrictions will be removed from the check posts and tourists can now enter Sikkim freely.
This announcement came from the home department of Sikkim after considering a significant decline in the number of new Covid-19 cases. Also, the positivity rate has declined drastically. This is good news for the business owners who are positive about the revival of tourism in Sikkim.
Sikkim has also been declared as the ‘most vaccinated state in India’. As per some reports, Sikkim is also known as the state with 100% vaccination of its adult population. The data has yet to be reviewed to make that assessment.
Some of the most popular destinations in Sikkim include Kalimpong and Darjeeling. These two destinations have prepared themselves for the influx of tourists. Tourism being the major contributor to the state’s economy, the revival of the businesses will bring a much-needed boost to the tourism industry.
Following is the official report from ‘Times of India’ reporting about the recent announcement made regarding the inter-state travel restrictions in Sikkim.
