Rajasthan, Uttarakhand & HP affected by severe cold wave

Night temperatures have been particularly low since the past few weeks now.

NEW DELHI: According to the India Meteorological Department, States like Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh observed severe cold wave conditions. The cold wave also touched parts of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh, as mentioned by IMD.

The prediction by IMD states that the cold wave conditions will definitely continue to stay in northwest India for the upcoming three days and it might increase thereafter. Uttrakhand is likely to witness dense fog in a few regions for the next two days. Punjab and Haryana I will also witness the same on December 23rd and 24th. On Sunday Punjab and Haryana witnessed severe cold. The minimum temperature in Amritsar was recorded as minus 0.5 degrees Celsius and Chandigarh recorded 3.2 degrees Celsius.

According to the weather officials, Haryana, Sirsa was the coldest place recording a low of 0.6°C. The minimum temperature in Rajasthan’s Fatehpur (Sikar) and Churu was recorded below the freezing point for the second consecutive day on Sunday. Sikar recorded -2.5°C followed by -0.6°C in Karauli and -0.2°C in Chittorgarh on Sunday night.

Madhya Pradesh after a decade recorded the lowest temperature in some large parts.
Bhopal also witnessed the coldest night in 55 years as the Mercury went down to 4 degrees on Sunday. A fresh cold wave alert for Uttarakhand was issued on Sunday by IMD
In Gwalior, the mercury plummeted to 1.8 °C.
It warned about the crazy chilling conditions.
Himachal was even colder than these regions. Average minimum and maximum temperatures were 3 to 4 degrees Celsius below normal.

For the second consecutive day, the minimum temperature was minus 6.0°C in Srinagar as an intense cold wave engulfed Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh on Sunday. It was -8.3°C in Pahalgam and -8.5°C in Gulmarg.
