Ropeways are being planned to connect Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib

The development of the ropeway will make the journey to the pilgrimage sites much easier.

The pilgrimage to the 2 most sacred sites of Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib will be made easier with the ropeways that are being planned. The Kedarnath temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites for Hindus. On the other hand, the Sikhs consider Hemkund Sahib to be a pilgrimage site for them.

Now the state government has announced that the ropeway system will be installed in order to make the journey much easier. Trekking to both these sites is quite hard for elderly people as they require mules to ride on. Although both these sites have Helicopter service the service is quite limited and is very expensive for a regular traveler.

The government plans to create 8 ropeway links in the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Both these states are expected to receive new infrastructure projects to help tourism to revive after the pandemic.

As of now, few sites have been chosen as the ropeway links and these sites are being reviewed. The chosen ropeway links include the following.

  • Tara Devi temple
  • Hattu Peak
  • Chunja glacier
  • Bharmani temple
  • Hanuman temple in Nainital
  • Ghangaria in Chamoli

These developments have the potential to increase the number of tourists visiting the states of Himachal and Uttarakhand. The revenue from the tourist activities is expected to increase if these projects are successfully implemented.
