The double-laning of the Manali Leh highway will be finished by December 2020

The journey from Manali to Leh will be finished in 10 hours after the highway is completed.

The project for the widening of the Manali-Leh highway has been going on for 11 years now. Due to less traffic during the pandemic, the work progress has improved. According to the project officials, the highway will be finished by the year-end.

The Manali-Leh highway is around 470 km long and the widening of this highway will be good for the people traveling from Manali to Leh. During the summer months, many tourists from all across India visit Leh and Ladakh. This highway is critical for handling the amount of increasing traffic in the last few years.

After the completion of this project, the travel time will be reduced and the quality of travel will also be improved significantly. It is expected that after the highway work is finished, it would take around 10 hours to complete the journey from Manali to Leh.

The entire highway will be able to handle 2-lane traffic and it is great for the safety of the travelers. The surface of the road will also be improved along with the smoothing of the steepness of certain areas of the highway.

Presently, 90% of the work has already been finished and by the end of the year, people will be able to travel on this highway. Before the widening of the highway, the travel time was usually 20 hours.
