The festival of Onam will be held virtually in Kerala

The vaccination drive has increased in Kerala to contain the spread of Covid.

The state government of Kerala has decided to organize the ceremonies of the popular festival of Onam virtually. This means that there will not be social gatherings taking place on large scale.

Onam is one of the most important festivals in South India. Every year, thousands of people engage in many different ceremonies and traditions. However, due to the risk of the Covid-19 surge, the festivities will have to be done online.

The state government has decided that the Onam Festival will be inaugurated on 14th August and will be broadcasted online. The Chief Minister said that people can post their decorations online where they will compete for the top prize. The state government has collaborated with many popular digital media and tv channels to promote the event.

The state government has been increasing its vaccination efforts along with strict safety protocols. The safety protocols will have to be observed by all stakeholders in the tourism industry. In the coming months, if the situation stabilizes, tourism will revive later this year.

The Covid situation has not yet improved in Kerala. But the health experts believe that proper social distancing and vaccination will make the state of Kerala ready for tourism. The following YouTube video from ‘Kerala Tourism’ shows the celebrations that are held every year during the Onam festival.
