Tourists coming from Sikkim banned from entering Darjeeling district

97 out 98 test samples collected in Darjeeling showed Covid positive results.

In the past weeks, a surge in the new Covid cases is being reported in North East India. To contain the threat of the third wave of Covid-19, the district administration of Darjeeling imposed new restrictions on everyone entering Darjeeling.

All tourists entering the state of Sikkim are being asked to produce a Covid-test report at the border. All people coming into Darjeeling on their vehicles are being inspected and checked for Covid symptoms along with the test report.

The health department in Darjeeling found cases of the new Delta variant among the test samples collected in the area. Out of 98 samples collected, 97 were found to be Covid-positive with the new Delta variant.

Fully vaccinated tourists need not do a Covid test to enter Darjeeling. In the past few weeks, the number of incoming tourists has also increased in Assam and Sikkim. With more and more Covid cases being reported, further restrictions are expected to be imposed in the coming days.
